The development of this capacity is assisted by the
studio critics and framed by the unfolding content of
the subsequent studios, but creative and poetic thought
is the responsibility of each student.
Constantly asked to re-think the architectural problem
in all phases of the project, the student must arrive
at an architecture that is legitimated at a rigorous
conceptual level.

본 스튜디오의 과제는 자연 속 경사지에 정자를 설계한다. 주어진 대지의
물리적 조건 -경사, 조망, 향- 등을 분석하고, 새로운 방식의 진출입 공간과 휴식, 사색,
전망할 수 있는 공간으로 구성된 정자를 제시한다.
- Design Studio Ⅰ과 Design Studio Ⅱ-1에서는 구체적인 context가
없었고(또는 약했고), scale도 private residence나 small gallery
정도의 소규모였다. 그리고 중점적인 학습목표도 형태, 공간 등이었다. 이에 반해, 이번 2학기
후반에는 구체적인 context를 제시해 주변을 생각하여야 하고, 특히 "landscape"의
의미를 학생 각자 concept의 출발점으로 제안한다.
scale도 지난 프로젝트들에 비해 상대적으로 커졌고, 중점적인 학습목표도 "concept"이며,
이와 더불어 초보적인 대지분석, 프로그램 분석도 다루게 된다.
- 건축은 인공적 구조물이다. "landscape"는
그러한 면에서 일반적으로 건축의 반대의 의미를 가진다. 되도록 자연 그대로 또는 자연을 모방한
작업을 의미한다. 하지만, "landscape"라는 말이 내포하는 "자연적인..."이라는
의미와는 달리 인공적인(artificial) landscape가 있다. 직설적으로 얘기하자면,
조경 중에서 건축적인 요소인 obserbatory, gate, bridge 등이 그것이다. 본
스튜디오에서는, 이들 4가지 요소 중 최소 두 가지가 갖추어진 "artificial
landscape"를 디자인한다. 이 주제어는 요즈음 건축에서 논의의 대상이 되고있는
것으로, 2학기에 학생들이 익혀야 할 건축적 사항들을 진행하기 위한 '도구'가 되는 것이다.
조경은 도심이든 교외든 쉼터의 의미를 많이 갖는데, 단지 남겨진 땅에 나무만 심는 조경을 추구하는
것이 아니라, 건축의 한계를 넓히는 생각을 가지고 이 프로젝트에 임해야 할 것 같다.
